How to Avoid Ringworm

Ringworm is a fungal infection that can occur as a rash on various parts of the body. It is not a serious concern, but it is contagious. It can spread from person to person, person to animal, object to person and, in rare cases, from soil to person. You can do several things to minimize your chances of catching it from an infected person or animal.

Instructions

    • 1

Keep your hands clean. Wash and dry thoroughly.

    • 2

Clean common and shared areas regularly. This will prevent the fungus from attaching itself to surfaces where it can easily be picked up.

    • 3

Stay away from infected animals. The rash usually appears as a patch of skin where fur is missing. If you suspect your pet has ringworm, take it to the vet to be checked out. Use medication as directed and cover your hands if you need to actually touch the skin to apply any treatments. Do not touch or groom your pet while it's infected.

    • 4

Do not let others use your personal items, like towels and hairbrushes. Do not use other people's personal items either.

    • 5

Keep cool and dry. Avoid excessive sweating.
