-
Step 2
OSB or Chip BoardPREPARE YOUR DECK OR SHEATHING.
NEW CONSTRUCTION. If your roof is a brand new structure you may use a minimum of 3/8 exterior plywood or 7/16 OSB (Oriented Strand Board) or some know it as chip board. Do not use fire retardant plywood because it will void the shingles warranty.
OVER EXISTING SHINGLES. Cut back the the existing shingles back 8 inches along the eaves and gable ends leaving your sheathing exposed along the perimeter of your roof. -
Step 3
Use 15 or 30 pound roofing feltUNDERLAYMENT. Use Type 15 (#15 pound felt) as the the underlayment for your Decra shingles. This can be put on using T150 staples or common roofing nails. You may use standard metal drip edge to cover the eave and gable ends of your roof. IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THAT YOU USE FELT OVER EXISTING ASPHALT SHINGLES. You may use 15 or 30 pound felt.
-
Step 4
From bottom right to left..INSTALLING THE PANELS. You must place the panels beginning at the bottom right of your roof. Apply the panels from right to left. The panels will fit into the ground channel applied over the drip edge. After your first row is complete cut a 28 inch piece of Decra Shingle and begin from right to left on top of your first row. Continue this process until you reach the peak of your roof.
