Not everyone lives in a large house, many people live in small spaces like one bedroom apartments or houses, studios or dorm rooms, or even aboard boats and in RV's. Most of the people who live in small spaces will still be celebrating Christmas; however living in a small space does make celebrating Christmas, or any holiday, a special challenge.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose quality over quantity when you live in a small space. A tiny jewel of a Christmas tree, or a lovely candle on a small table somewhere can make a huge holiday decorating statement without taking up much room in your small space home.

Your Christmas decorations can be as tiny as one glittering tree ornament hung on a small wall area in your living room, or wherever it fits.

  2. Step 2
    Holly

Decorate windows and mirrors for the holidays wherever you can. They are already a part of your home and won't encroach on your living space during the holidays.

To decorate your windows and mirrors, you can use fake snow, a painted scene, cling-ons, or wrap a holly or spruce bough garland around the edges of the mirror or window.

  3. Step 3

Go outside and enjoy nature as a big part of your Christmas celebration. Being outside and enjoying the lights and the decorations will help you to forget the tiny space waiting for you at home.

  4. Step 4

Don't go shopping for any new decorations this year. Use what you already have instead. Chances are, unless you're newly married or out on your own for the first time, you've already got enough Christmas decorations.

You don't want to cram any more decorations into an already small space, so avoid temptation and resolve not to buy any new decorations this Christmas.

  5. Step 5
    Xmas time

Use your Christmas mugs, towels, tablecloths, pillows, etc. to create a Christmas feeling throughout your small space. You'd be using these things anyway so they might as well be festive and put you in the holiday mood when you use them or look at them.

  6. Step 6

Be flexible in how you use your small space for Christmas. Maybe you could put your small tree on a tabletop, or inside a small closet with the door propped open, or wherever you can find room for it.

Think about decorating your balcony or patio if you have one with outdoor Christmas lights at least. This gives the illusion of another room, and comes in handy if you throw any Christmas parties.

  7. Step 7

Invite family and friends over and enjoy the season. People living in small spaces don't have to forgo entertaining, they just have to get creative and use their space wisely. Fabulous parties are thrown in RV's, dorm rooms, and aboard boats every day of the week and you can do it too.

  8. Step 8
    Xmas candles

Play Christmas music, bake delicious and aromatic Christmas goodies, and watch Christmas movies, alone or with friends and family. All these things help to create the joy and festive feeling of Christmas.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember that the size of your heart matters more than the size of your home or your wallet when celebrating Christmas.
