Doing a self breast exam could be one of the best things you do for yourself. With breast cancer on the rise, it is important to learn how to do a self-breast exam. Once mostly done for the detection of a possible lump for breast cancer, it is now widely accepted to do self-breast exams to know the different textures and condition of your breast, being aware of the normally consistency of your breast.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    During a self-breast exam is not difficult. First, lie down on a flat surface. This will allow your breast tissue expand, making it easier to feel any lumps.

  2. Step 2

    Choose which breast you would like to examine first.

  3. Step 3

    Which ever breast you choose first, use the opposite hand and begin with the three middle fingers going in a circular motion up and down on the breast. Make sure to exert different pressures.

  4. Step 4

    Repeat this process on the other breast. Do the complete cycle two or three times.

  5. Step 5

    When done, look down at your breast and in a mirror. Really observe your breast. You are looking for any unfamiliar shaping or abnormality of your breast.

  6. Step 6

    If you notice any significant changes or your feel something different about your breast, please contact your primary care physician immediately.

  • If caught early, breast cancer has a high survival rate.
  • Even if you feel a lump in your breast, in may not necessarily be cancerous.
  • You are not alone.
  • October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
  • Breast cancer can spread to other parts of the body.
