Step 1
HOLLY AND BERRIES: Use a holly and berry garland to wrap around your banister to give a Christmas look. You can usually find pre-made garlands with holly and berries in them at many retail stores that carry Christmas decor. You could also add Christmas lights to these garlands for a Christmas touch, some already have lights, to save money add them yourself.

Step 2
LIGHTS AND METALLIC GARLAND: An old fashioned Christmas look is created by using metallic garland and stringing lights through it. Also hang some red and green shiny Christmas bulb ornaments from it to make it really festive and a little more modern looking.

Step 3
ICICLE LIGHTS: Hang a strand of icicle lights from the banister for a wintery Christmas look. You could then use some cotton to wrap around the banister, to look like snow. You can buy white cotton with glitter through it for Christmas decorating at craft stores and fabric stores, like Jo Ann's Fabrics or Hobby Lobby.

Step 4
HANG STOCKINGS: Add your stockings to the banister also. Many people hang them on the fireplace mantle, but if you do not have a mantle or simply want a change, try hanging them on the banister with any of the other decor choices listed above.
