Elmo has long been a favorite icon for children. When you are throwing an Elmo- or "Sesame Street"-themed party, consider making cupcakes that look like this furry friend. Creating your own Elmo cupcakes is simple when you use some candies to help decorate them. Because Elmo has been popular for decades, these cupcakes could work well for a children's party or as a whimsical touch to a party thrown for an Elmo-loving adult. Elmo cupcakes are also simple enough that children can get involved in creating them.
Things You'll Need
- Pastry bag
- Star tip
- Red frosting
- Round chocolate candies
- Orange gum ball
Bake your cupcakes (either from scratch or using a boxed cake mix) and let them cool completely before beginning to decorate them.
Fit a star tip inside a pastry bag and fill the bag with red frosting.
Place the tip on top of the cupcake, squeeze the bag so that a bit of frosting comes out and then lift it straight up. This should give you a star shape. Continue this process until the entire cupcake is frosted with red stars. This will give the cupcake's frosting texture, so that it looks like Elmo's fur.
Cut a large marshmallow in half with a knife. Place the halves side by side on top of the cupcake to create Elmo's eyes.
Place a round chocolate candy on top of each marshmallow half to complete Elmo's eyes.
Place a large orange gum ball just below the eyes to create Elmo's large orange nose.
Repeat this process until all of the cupcakes are decorated.
