DVR is short for digital video recorder and many cable companies provide a DVR with certain television packages. These devices allow you to record content from the television onto a digital hard drive. However, the problem with this is you cannot take the recording with you to a different location. To do this, you need to connect a VCR to the DVR. The VCR can record material onto a VHS tape, which can be taken and played on any other VCR player.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Take the coaxial cable from your cable outlet and connect it to the "In" port on the DVR.

  2. Step 2

Insert an RCA cable (red, yellow and white) into the "Video Out" port on the DVR recorder. Make sure the red, yellow and white cables are plugged into the matching color ports on the DVR.

  3. Step 3

Plug the other end of the RCA cables into the "In" port on the VCR.

  4. Step 4

Attach the second RCA cable into the "Out" port of the VCR, then plug the other end of the cable into the "In" port of the television.

  5. Step 5

Turn on the television, DVR and VCR. All the content that is played on your television from the DVR must first pass through the VCR, so when there is something you want to record and take to a different location, insert a VHS tape and press the "Play" and "Record" button.
