How to Mow Zoysia Grass

Zoysia grass is a grass that is native to Asia, but it is now used in many places around the world because of its advantages. This grass is very drought tolerant, grows well in either acidic or alkaline soils and is hardy in a wide range of climates. Zoysia grass will be even more likely to thrive if given proper care, including mowing it so as to encourage healthy growth. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Perform regular mowing of Zoysia grass to a height of between 3/4 inch and 2 inches. It is a grass that responds well to frequent and close cutting. Take no more than 1/3 of the grass blade off at any one time.

    • 2

Plan to mow Zoysia grass once while it is still dormant and before the growing season begins. This mowing should be done to about a 1-inch height after any danger of a hard freeze.

    • 3

Keep your lawn mower blade sharp. A dull blade will damage the grass more severely than a sharp one, and this can lead to greater exposure to disease.

    • 4

If you have let the grass get very long, mow several times about four days apart to get the lawn down a little at a time to the 3/4-inch to 2-inch level.
