How to Flatten Your Stomach on a Total Gym
The Total Gym is a piece of fitness equipment that uses pulleys and your body weight to tighten and tone the muscles. With the Total Gym, you can work just about any muscle group, from your calf muscles to your shoulders and everywhere in between, including your stomach. There are several different ab exercises you can perform while using the Total Gym to help flatten your stomach and give you the abs you want.

1
Adjust the Total Gym's seat cushion so it is elevated as high as it can be off the ground. By the headrest, there is a series of hooks, which allow you to lift up the headrest from a lower level and latch it onto a higher hook, giving an increased elevation.

2
Lie down with your head on the headrest and your hands behind your ears. Perform a crunch by squeezing your abdominal muscles in and raising your shoulders up away from the pad. Lower yourself back down for one repetition. Perform 2 sets of 15 repetitions.

3
Flip around so your legs are at the top part of the bench and your head is pointing towards the floor. You want to drape your knees over the top of the head pad to help hold your body in place. Perform a full sit up from this position. Because you are at a decline position you have more body weight pushing down on you and the move becomes more difficult. Perform 2 sets of 15 reps.

4
Lower the headrest and pad down to a lower level so there is a minimum incline. Sit sideways on the mat with your legs hanging off one side. Keep your legs elevated so they are not touching the floor. Have your chest and head face the back of the Total Gym while holding the hand pulleys. Use your stomach muscles to twist your torso to align with your legs. Do not use your arms to pull yourself around because that move defeats the purpose of the exercise. Return to the start position. This is one rep. Perform 2 sets of 10 reps for each side.
