How to Separate Plastic Buckets

Plastic buckets are handy items to have around the house and garden. They are durable and easy to clean and will often last for years before they need to be replaced. However, if plastic buckets of the same type are stacked inside one another, they have a tendency to become wedged together. The longer they stay that way, the harder it is to get them apart. Here are a few ideas that will help separate the buckets from one another.

Things You'll Need

• Water
• Ice
• Sink/tub

Instructions

1. Fill the top bucket three-quarters full with cold tap water.

2. Place one or two cups of ice into the water contained in the top bucket.

3. Place the bottom bucket in a sink or tub and fill the sink/tub with very hot water from the tap.

4. Allow the buckets to sit in the water for one to two minutes.

5. Pull on the top bucket to separate it from the bottom bucket. The hot water causes the bottom bucket to expand, while the ice water causes the top bucket to contract.
