How to Replace Window Valances
Window valances are an effective way to enhance and decorate a plain window. You can use a valance alone or in addition to a curtain. A valance is attractive when used over a curtain because it hides the curtain rod above a window. Valances are also useful alone to add a simple decorator touch at the top of a window. When you tire of the valances you are using, replace them to quickly and easily update your décor. Does this Spark an idea?

How to Replace Window Valances
-
1
Select new valances that will fit your window. Measure the outside width of the window from the outside point of the molding on the left to the outside point of the molding on the right. Select valances that will fit this measurement. Some valances have gathers, in which case you must select valances that are 1.5 to 2 times wider than the window. If your valances do not have gathers, select valances that will cover the window and the left and right sides of the valance rod to cover the rod entirely.

2
Unhook the valance rod from the wall, and remove the old valances. Ensure the valance rod is in good condition while you have it removed.

3
Slide the new valances on the valance rod. If there are tabs, make sure the valance rod goes through all of the tabs. If the valance rod goes through a casing, simply slide it through and center of the valance on the valance rod.
-
4
Hang the valance rod back on the hardware on the wall. If the valance needs additional dimension, stuff the inside of the valance with nylon netting, plastic or wadded newspaper to make the valance puffy.
