Instructions

    • 1

Decide if you can handle the day-to-day working conditions associated with being an usher at the Nassau Coliseum. Being an usher requires you to work directly with people, answering questions and showing them their location on maps, which necessitates a familiarity with the arena. You will spend long hours on your feet and work late at night.

    • 2

Search the SMG World website for full-time usher positions, but only if you're available for full-time employment. Part-time positions are handled by the Suffolk County Department of Labor. The full-time positions aren't available all the time, but visiting the site gives you the chance to see different positions open within the company.

    • 3

Email a copy of your resume, cover letter and other information to the email address listed on the SMG website. You'll receive a confirmation email indicating that your information was received, but then you'll need to wait until you're contacted about any open positions.

    • 4

Check with the Suffolk County Department of Labor. The Suffolk County Department of Labor is responsible for hiring all part-time workers for the Nassau Coliseum. The Department requires that you fill out an application on site before you're considered for any work. Just be sure to state that you want to become an usher at the Nassau Coliseum.

    • 5

Contact the Nassau Coliseum at (516) 794-9300. This is best if you don't see any listings for ushers on the SMG website, or if you can't contact the Suffolk County Department of Labor. You can occasionally find jobs available before the general public, or you can learn when ushers are needed.

Tips & Warnings

  • Consider working in the food service side of things by working at the concession area before seeking employment as an usher. Not only are there more of these jobs, but you'll also have the inside track on job openings in other departments. Ask about volunteer opportunities at the Nassau Coliseum, which usually come up during major events, fairs and festivals. This gives you experience working at the coliseum, which you can use on your resume and applications when applying for an usher position.
