1
Exercise regularly. Shoot for at least 30 minutes several days a week. Use a combination of aerobic exercise like walking or running with weight training and stretching. This will make your spine, joints and ligaments stronger and more flexible. If you are unsure what to do, ask your doctor; he can give you advice about a safe and effective regimen

2
Pay attention to your body mechanics. Be aware of how you are positioning your body when you are sitting, standing, sleeping and lifting things. Use seating that supports your lower back and helps it maintain its natural curve. When you are driving, keep your seat far enough up that you are not reaching for the pedals. Lift objects safely; bend your knees so your arms are even with the object. Sleep on a firm mattress.

Lose weight if necessary. Extra weight puts extra pressure on your bones and joints. Your doctor can advise you of your ideal weight and how to best reach your goals.
