How to Recycle Old Baby Beds

A baby bed or crib is one of the most expensive purchases you make as an expectant parent. So when your child has outgrown it, you don't want the crib to go to waste. There are many ways you can ensure that it gets plenty of future use--either in your family or by another baby. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Make sure your crib is in good condition and safe for a baby to sleep in. Check that there are no cracks or other structural damage to the crib.

    • 2

Recycle a damaged crib by repurposing it for another use within your home. You can make it into a laundry drying rack, a hanging rack for pots and pans, a garden trellis, a wall organizer or a twin bed headboard.

    • 3

Advertise to find a new home for a used crib in good, safe condition. Place ads in craigslist, in your newspaper, in community locations and on your local freecycle.

    • 4

Ask your friends, especially other parents, to help you find a new home for your crib. They might know someone who's having a baby and needs a crib.

    • 5

Donate your crib if you can't find anyone who will pick it up. Find a Goodwill, a Salvation Army or a similar thrift store that accepts donations. Call first to make sure they accept cribs, and be sure to deliver it during hours when they take donations.
