Asian beetles are a common nuisance in gardens and lawns, especially during the spring and summer months. Beetle traps can be found in hardware and garden stores, but there is a simple, free way to build a trap and rid your garden of Asian beetles.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Funnel
  • Trash bag
  • Wire
  • Tape
  • Baby oil
  • Hamburger meat
  1. Step 1

Tape the mouth of the trash bag around the perimeter of the funnel with the cone facing down into the bag. Make sure the seal is tight.

  2. Step 2

Tape one end of the wire to one side of the outer edge of the funnel and the other end to the other side, creating a mechanism by which to hang your trap.

  3. Step 3

Lather baby oil around the interior of the funnel, creating a slippery slope for the bugs, which will cause them to lose their footing.

  4. Step 4

Place a bit of hamburger meat down into the trash bag to act as bait.

  5. Step 5

Hang the trap on a tree limb or branch in your garden.

Tips & Warnings
  • Several insect baits are available that create a distinct, Asian beetle-attracting scent that will help lure the bugs into your trap. Soaking the meat in a toxic chemical, such as bleach, that will kill the Asian beetles when they get caught in the trap.
  • Asian beetles can bite, so be careful when disposing of the insects. Wear safety gloves in case some of the bugs survive within the trap when throwing them away.
