How to Make an a Frame Garden Trellis
An A-frame garden trellis is useful for a compact garden space. Vine plants such as beans, tomatoes or cucumbers grow up the sides of these frames, while underneath them, cool-temperature plants such as lettuce or broccoli can be grown in the shade and cooler environment provided by the vines. Things You'll Need
- Two door hinges
- Two screen door frames
- Welded wire fencing
- Wire cutters
- Fencing staples
- Hammer
- Utility knife
- Drill
- Phillips screwdriver head for drill
- Landscape fabric
- Landscape fabric stakes

Remove wire mesh from the frame of an old screen door frame by cutting it out with a utility knife.

Unroll welded wire fencing and cut to the length of the screen door frames using wire cutters.

Tack welded wire fencing to the outside of the screen door frame using fencing staples. Hammer staples in place.

Attach the two screens together using hinges, hinge screws that came with hinges and Phillips screwdriver drill bit.

Place screens in an A-shape in garden and plant vine plants around the outside.

Line the dirt inside the A-frame trellis with landscaping fabric to serve as a weed barrier. Stake the weed barrier fabric down with plastic stakes.

Cut a hole in the landscaping fabric to plant cold-hearty plants such as lettuce.
