How to String a Homelite Trimmer
Homelite was founded in 1921 as the Home Electric Lighting Co. It introduced its first gasoline powered string trimmer in 1978. The company added a bulb primer in 1987 and in 1993 sold a million trimmers in a year. The Homelite range of trimmers are eco-friendly and light-weight. Some use a one-piece crankcase and cylinder to reduce weight. As technologically advanced as these trimmers are, you still have to string them. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Unplug the trimmer.
-
2
Cut two pieces of string--each about 9 feet long. The easiest way to do this is to unreel the package until you can hold the package above your head. Grasp the exposed string just before the package with your arms still extended and lowering the package, cut the string and you'll have a little under nine feet. Unravel a bit more if you're short.

3
Repeat for the second piece.
-
4
Remove the spool from the string head by pushing in the tabs on the side of the spool retainer. Pull the spool retainer up to remove it. Junk any remaining string.
-
5
Insert the first string into the hole in the upper part of the spool and wind it counterclockwise. Follow the arrow. Slot the string into the flange leaving about 6 inches exposed.
-
6
Repeat with the second string using the bottom part of the spool.
-
7
Replace the plastic retainer, spool and the spool retainer. Depress the tabs into the slots until the spool retainer clicks into place.
