Laundry detergent is used to clean and remove stains from clothing, but what do you do if your detergent is the reason your clothing is stained? No one wants to throw out good or brand new clothing due to streaky, blotchy laundry detergent stains. The good news is that you don't have to. It may take an extra wash and some extra effort, but with a few simple household products, laundry detergent stains are easily removed.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Wet the stained areas with water, then rub them with a bar of gentle soap, working the soap into the stains with your fingers or a brush.

  2. Step 2

Rinse all soap from the article of clothing.

  3. Step 3

Soak the clothing in undiluted white vinegar for 15 minutes.

  4. Step 4

Remove the garment from the vinegar. With the stains gone, wash the garment again to remove the vinegar and any leftover soap.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep an eye on the garment while it soaks in vinegar, as it may not need to soak for the entire 15 minutes or it may need to go a few minutes more. Allow the article of clothing to soak until the stains are gone, but do not allow the garment to soak longer than 30 minutes.
  • Only use white vinegar to remove stains in your clothing as other types of vinegar may further stain your clothing.
