Instructions

Select the size of the pillar candle that you prefer before you select the cylinder vases. Pillar candles range from 2 inches to 6 inches in diameter and from 3 inches to 12 inches in height. The candle must fit inside the smaller cylinder vase. You can create any size candle holder you like, just make sure that the smaller cylinder vase fits inside the larger vase with at least 2 inches of clearance all the way around between the outside of the small vase and the inside of the large vase. For example, to make a candle holder for a 2-inch-diameter pillar candle, select a 4-inch-diameter vase to house the candle and at least an 8-inch diameter cylinder vase to hold the rocks and the smaller vase. The more clearance you have between the sides of the smallest and largest vase, the more glass rocks you can add. The height of your smaller vase should also be shorter than the larger vase.

Your goal is to have the rim of both vases as near as possible in height when the small vase is inside the large one. Place the small cylinder vase inside the large vase. If the heights are equal, that's perfect. If the smaller vase is more than 1 inch shorter than the larger vase, you will need to line glass rocks in the bottom of the large vase before you set the small vase inside.

With the small vase centered within the larger one, add glass rocks between the sides of the two vases. Keep the small vase centered as you fill in around it with the glass stones. Fill the stones as close to the top as possible.

Wearing a protective mask and gloves in a well-ventilated location, mix the liquid epoxy resin according to the manufacturer's directions, then pour it over the glass rocks. Be careful not to pour any of the resin into the small vase. Let the resin dry. This usually takes between 24 and 48 hours.

Place the pillar candle into the small glass vase.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always wear safety gear when working with liquid epoxy resins. Always work with epoxy resin in a well ventilated area, away from children or pets.
