Decorate pillar candles with crystal beads to add visual interest, personality and to embellish your candles. Besides burning candles for ambiance, soft lighting or the scent, they are commonly used to spruce up home decor. Due to the large range of colors and sizes, you'll be able to choose a group of pillar candles that match the decor of the room you'll be putting them in and add crystal ornamentation that complement the candles.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pillar candles
  • Strings of crystal beads
  • Pillar holders or decorative plates
  1. Step 1

Choose at least three pillar candles to make up a group. Different heights and thicknesses in each individual candle will create a complete look within the group. Arrange the candles on a candle holder, decorative plate or on pillar holders. The tallest pillar should be in the back and center of the other two.

  2. Step 2

Wrap small strings of crystal beads around each pillar. Start at the very bottom of the candle and tightly coil the string of crystal beads around the candle at least three to five times. Only cover the bottom of the candle so some of the candle is still exposed and can be burned if you desire. Repeat with the other two candles in your group. Make your own strings using crystal beads and thin crafting wire if you enjoy beading work.

  3. Step 3

Arrange your three pillars in one large, shallow bowl or on a decorative plate for another option. Simply fill the surrounding area with loose crystals in the shape and color of your choice.

  4. Step 4

Embed the crystals directly into the pillar candles if you are making and pouring your own candles. Gently push the crystals into the candle while it's still warm and mushy. If you attempt to push the crystals into the pillar candle while the wax is too hot, they'll sink or drop into the candle where you won't be able to see them.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use crystals that complement the candles. For example, clear crystals wouldn't impact plain white pillars much; however red, blue or pink crystals would. If you choose to add loose crystals or wrap your pillars with strings of beaded crystals, you can change the look at any time by opting for different crystals. This works well with neutral colored pillars and can reflect decor changes or seasonal and holiday changes.
  • Avoid burning candles with decorative items, especially flammable items, near the burning wick.
