How to Make Bracelets Out of Candy Wrappers

Candy wrapper chains are a popular pastime for school age children, with them often competing to see who can make the longest chain. These chains make fun and colorful bracelets for children to wear when having dress up play. Younger children can make them as easily as older ones, so little sister can dress up just like her older sister.

Instructions

    • 1

Open up one Starburst wrapper and smooth it out onto the table, with the printed side down. Fold the top edge down to meet the bottom edge, creating a fold in the center of the wrapper. Open the wrapper back up with the printed side down.

    • 2

Fold the bottom edge of the wrapper up until it meets the center fold, and sharply crease the fold that you have created. Fold the top edge down until it meets the center fold, and crease this fold as well. Fold the wrapper in half along the first center fold, keeping the creased folds in place.

    • 3

Fold the folded wrapper in half from right to left, creating a center crease that runs vertically. Open the wrapper back up. Fold the right edge of the folded wrapper until it touches this vertical fold, and sharply crease the resulting fold. Fold the left edge of the folded wrapper until it touches the vertical fold and sharply crease the fold that this creates. Fold the wrapper along the vertical crease once again, and sharply crease it.

    • 4

Create more folded wrappers in this same manner until you have at least 30 of them. Hold one folded wrapper with the open end pointing up. Hold another wrapper in your other hand in the same manner. Slightly open one folded wrapper to create a V-shaped folded wrapper. Slip the two ends of the V into the folds of the other wrapper's V ends, pushing it through until the ends come out the other side and the original vertical fold is snug against the first wrapper.

    • 5

Hold a third wrapper with the folded ends pointed up, and slip those V ends into the folds of the second wrapper's V ends. Alternate putting wrappers together, with one going into the wrapper top down and the next one from the bottom up. Continue in this manner, creating a zigzag of wrapper chain, until the chain is as long as desired to make your bracelet. Slip the first and last folded wrappers together to complete the circle and finish your bracelet.

Tips & Warnings

  • These bracelets can also be made with gum-wrapper chains, making a gum wrapper necklace or bracelet.
