Connecting your Xbox 360 console to a Windows Media Center gives you the ability to view digital photos, watch and record television shows, listen to your digital music library and more on a TV in your home. When you connect a console to a PC with Windows Media Center, the same experience can be delivered to the Xbox 360-connected television.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Go to www.xbox.com/pcsetup where you can download the newest software update for Windows Media Center for your personal computer.

  2. Step 2

Connect your console to your PC. There are multiple ways of doing this. You can connect an Ethernet cable directly from the Xbox 360 to the computer if you do not need to connect to Xbox Live and require no Internet connection for your console. If you also want Internet functionality on the Xbox 360 you can directly connect to a modem or router with an Ethernet cable or you can buy a wireless network adapter to pick up a wireless signal from the router.

Set up your system following the modem or router instructions so that the computer and Xbox 360 console are both connected to the network and can share information.

  3. Step 3

Adjust network settings if desired. The console can connect to an 802.11g or an 802.11a router, but optimal performance is obtained with the 802.11a version. That is because other wireless devices like desktop and laptop computers usually connect with the 802.11g network and therefore can slow down the speed of transmission. You can adjust these settings by going into the router setup software on your PC. Consult the manual that came with your router for more information.

  4. Step 4

Go to the dashboard after turning on the Xbox 360 console.

  5. Step 5

Select "Media" and then Windows Media Center. Follow the instructions to finish the setup of the Windows Media Center.

Tips & Warnings
  • Check back on the setup website on Xbox.com occasionally for updates to the Windows Media Center to ensure you have the latest version.
  • Only use networking equipment that has the logo Designed for Media Center Edition, or DfMCE, certified. Otherwise you can experience poor performance with the wireless network when running Windows Media Center.
