Gather all the supplies. Find a basket that can hold all the items you have collected. Spray paint the basket a neutral color to give a it brand new look and feel. Shred the brown paper bags into small strips that can be crinkled and used as a filler for the bottom of the basket. Put the brown paper shreddings in the bottom of the basket before placing any items in it.

Place a variety of nonperishable goods and useful items in the basket. Select canned foods, such as peanut butter and tuna. Use hygiene products, such as toothpaste, deodorant and soap; cleaning products such as laundry detergent, all-purpose cleaner or dish-washing liquid; and new or slightly used clothing. Position the items so most of them are visible.

Place two long sheets of plastic wrap under the basket. Pull the corners of the plastic to the top of the basket to cover it. Use the bow to tie the plastic wrap closed at the top of the basket.

Place an inspirational card with a personal message on the outside of the gift basket. Write a short note or letter to the recipient that encourages or gives new hope. Consider using a quote about overcoming difficulty or being strengthened or encouraged.
