Instructions

  1. Removing Mold with Lemon and Sunshine

    • 1

Take the tablecloth outside to brush the mold away with a soft- to medium-bristle brush. This is best done outside or over a trash can so that mold spores cannot get loose in your home.

    • 2

Lay the tablecloth flat with the mold side facing up, in a place where it can get the most sunlight. Place a blanket underneath to help keep it from getting dirty.

    • 3

Squeeze lemon juice all over the stained area so that it is soaked.

    • 4

Sprinkle table salt over the lemon juice. Use enough salt to be able to create friction when you scrub it.

    • 5

Scrub the area with a clean, damp cloth or sponge to work the lemon juice into the fibers.

    • 6

Allow the tablecloth to sit outside in the sunshine until the stain is gone. The area will be dry at this point, but go ahead and rinse it off with clean water.

    • 7

Launder the tablecloth per the manufacturer's instructions.

    Removing Mold with Bleach

    • 8

Brush away as mold as possible with a soft to medium brush. Do this over a trash can or outside to avoid mold spores getting loose in your home.

    • 9

Add 2 tbsp. of chlorine bleach into a gallon of water.

    • 10

Sponge the solution onto the area with a clean cloth or sponge.

    • 11

Rinse the area clean after 15 minutes with clear water.

    • 12

Place the tablecloth someplace cool and dry until no moisture remains.

Tips & Warnings

  • Remember that bleach fades fabrics so it isn't safe to use on colored tablecloths; sub vinegar and water in equal parts for tablecloths that aren't white. Store tablecloths and other linens in cool dry places to avoid mold.

  • Do not put the tablecloth in the dryer until the stain is completely gone as the heat will set the stain. Wear protective gear such as a mask, gloves and glasses when cleaning up mold.
