How to Clean a Coleman Road Grill

Coleman is a prominent name in camping gear. Available at all sorts of stores, including Wal-Mart and Dick's Sporting Goods, the cooking products usually come in a nonstick variety. The road grill has a Teflon covering that helps to prevent sticking when grilling out and makes for a quick and easy cleanup. But what is the best way to clean this grill? How do you get rid of a burnt or dried-on piece of food or marinade?

Things You'll Need

  • Cooking spray
  • Bowl
  • Hot, soapy water
  • Sponge
  • Cup of cold water

Normal Cleaning Method

  • Spray the grill thoroughly with the cooking spray after removing all the food.

  • Close grill and let sit for five minutes.

  • Mix the hot, soapy water in the bowl.

  • Dip the sponge into the water and wring out over the grill.

  • Gently wipe in an up down motion to remove any food or liquids.

  • Let cool.

Caked-on Messes

  • Plug in the grill to get it hot.

  • Pour water over the grill where food is burnt on, then close the grill and let sit for five minutes. Repeat this process two to five more times depending on the severity of the mess.

  • Follow steps 1 through 6 of the previous cleaning method.

Tips & Warnings

  • These grills are easier to clean when they are warm, so start cleaning right after you're done cooking a food option that hasn't left any hard or crispy residue. Start cleaning any road grill within ten minutes of taking the last item off the grill.
  • Grills should be hot when you start to clean them, so be careful not to get burned! Do not use any metal object to try and scrape off dried food. This will cause the Teflon to fall off and mar the nonstick surface.
