How To Kill Mold on Canvas

Mold is a fungus that grows on objects exposed to moisture for a prolonged period of time. The spores can be killed by sunlight, but to remove the mold stains and kill the fungus in one fell swoop, a combination of antibacterial soap and bleach works best.

  • Liquid bleach
  • Mop bucket
  • Car scrub brush
  • Hot water
  • Antibacterial dish soap

      Put hot water and antibacterial dish soap in the mop bucket.

      Add a capful of bleach for pure white canvas, or non-chlorine bleach for off-white and colored canvas.

      Mix with the car scrub brush.

      Scrub the moldy spots on the canvas until clean. Rinse with water.

Tips & Warnings

  • It is advised to wear some form of gloves when dealing with bleach. Do not spill the bleach on clothes to prevent discoloration. Bleach should never be used on any color other than white because of the discoloration it will cause. Non-chlorine bleach is specified for colors and will generally not cause discoloration of the material.
