You can make tree cutouts out of cardboard and poster paint for decorations, sets and scenery. You need to use thick cardboard, so ask appliance and electronics stores for large sheets of it. Refrigerator and television boxes work well. No tree in nature is the same, so the shapes you draw and cut out don't have to be symmetrical.
Things You'll Need
- Thick cardboard
- Hobby knife, box cutter or scissors
- Green and brown poster paint
- Paint brushes
Lay the piece of cardboard on a flat surface. If one particular side is the front, lay that side down.
Draw the outline of a tree. Because you are drawing on the back of the cardboard, it's okay to make mistakes.
Cut out the tree with a box knife or scissors. Cut it off in small chunks to make it easier.
Spread newspapers over your work surface. Place the tree on the newspaper, marker side down.
Paint the tree with the poster paints and brushes. Leave the tree flat to dry.
