How to Recover a Laptop Acer Aspire 5600 Without CDs

Sometimes, a computer issue can be so severe that troubleshooting it through normal methods is not possible. When this happens, the only alternative may be to perform a complete system recovery operation. On an Acer Aspire 5600, the recovery operation requires no CDs, because the files necessary for the operation are already stored on your hard drive.

  • Shut the computer down completely, and turn it back on. As soon as the computer is turned on, begin tapping the F2 key on the keyboard. This will load the motherboard setup utility.

  • Select "Main" from the menu, then highlight "D2D Recovery." Use the F5 and F6 keys to set "D2D Recovery" to "Enabled."

  • Save your changes. the computer will reboot.

  • Hold the Alt key on the keyboard and tap the F10 key repeatedly as the computer is booting. This will start the system recovery process. You may be asked to enter a password to continue. If you have not changed the password, it is "000000."

  • Complete the system recovery process by following the instructions shown on the screen.

Tips & Warnings

  • The system recovery process should only be used as a last resort, when there is no other way to fix a problem that you are having with your computer. This process will delete everything on the primary hard drive partition. If you have access to your hard drive, back your important files up before beginning the recovery process. Recovery without CDs is only possible if the hard drive in your Acer Aspire 5600 is functional. If the hard drive has failed, contact Acer technical support to obtain a recovery CD.
