Step 1
Ask your hosts if you may contribute to the meal. While many friends and families are more than happy to have a pot luck style Thanksgiving, the gourmet cooks in your circle will have a different take on outside contributions to dinner, especially since etiquette dictates that your gift of food be incorporated into the meal. If you do get the go ahead to bring a dish, make sure that it will blend in with the menu. A dessert of some kind is usually a welcome choice.
-
Step 2
Bring flowers and a nice greeting card. Most florists have autumn and Thanksgiving themed floral arrangements. They can be simple or profuse, and your hosts will appreciate the thought that went into the gift, as long as it isn’t a centerpiece. Remember, the turkey is the star attraction.
-
Step 3
Offer to help clear the table. Anyone that has prepared a Thanksgiving feast for their loved ones knows what a wonderful gift this can be. Let your host or hostess supervise from a comfortable spot while you wash the dishes and rave about the delicious meal you just enjoyed.

on 11/21/2009 Insist on helping to clear the table and clean up! Even when a host protests, it is only for show. Just do it.
