This is the simplest method to count carbohydrates, and anyone can do it.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • at most, a simple scale to weigh your food
  1. Step 1
    Nutrition Label

    Nutrition Label

Find the serving size on the Nutrition Label.
It is usually listed as a qty (such as “5 crackers” or “2 oz”)

  2. Step 2

Look for “Total Carbohydrates” which tells you how many carbohydrates there are per serving. Don’t be concerned if other carbohydrates are listed beneath the total. At this point we are only concerned with the total

  3. Step 3
    Food scale

    Food scale

Determine the amount you want to eat which may be multiples of the serving size

  4. Step 4

If the serving size is listed as a weight (lets say "grams"), then determine how many ounces you want to eat and do the following simple math to determine how many carbohydrates you will be consuming:

    E.G. Food "A"
    Serving size = 6 grams
Total Carbohydrate = 15 grams per serving

You want to eat 18 grams of this food

    18 grams of "A" x (15 g carbohydrate/6 grams of "A" per serving)

    18 grams of "A" = 45 g carbohydrate
