get Apple's New iMac for a Discount

If you're new to buying Apple computers, you're probably paying full price. While it's true that Apple's iMac line pretty much never goes on sale, there are several steps you can take in getting an iMac for less. While your savings won't be tremendous, a little work can ensure they're in the triple digits. A hundred dollars is a hundred dollars, right?

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The best thing you can do to save money on an iMac is get out of the Apple store! Even the online store. Apple may not charge shipping, but if you live in a state or region that has an Apple store, you're going to have to pay tax - and that can be several hundred dollars, depending on what and where you buy. Instead try shopping at an Amazon store. I've provided several links below. The actual Amazon price may only be a few dollars cheaper, but you'll also save all that tax money! Not to mention shipping is free.

  2. Step 2

If you have to shop at the apple store, use a student discount! The click the link in the lower left hand corner of their store to access the "student store". Here major purchase items will be discounted an average of 10%. You'll need to be a student to shop on that page, but if you aren't on yourself I'm sure you have one somewhere in your life.

  3. Step 3

Instead of getting a new iMac, try buying the last generation! There's nothing wrong with the previous generation - and they're like cars. As soon as next year's model comes out, the previous year's model plummets in price. Pick yourself up the last generation's model and save a ton of cash.

on 10/24/2009 Excellent article! Another great option is to buy refurbished stuff. Apple-Discounts.com is a useful website that displays the latest refurbished offerings from Apple. All products come with the standard Apple one-year warranty and the savings can be quite substantial.
