Things You'll Need:
- vinegar
- baking soda

Step 1
Create your own tub spray to fight against the pesky film left by soap scum. This spray is made by combing simple household vinegar with water in a one to one ratio and putting the liquid in a plastic spray bottle. After you have finished using the shower or bathtub for the day, saturate the walls, floor, and tile with the vinegar spray that you created.
-
Step 2
Rinse the tub carefully after use because the soaps and shampoos combine with mineral salts in the water to form soap scum. This buildup can also attract mold, mildew, and bacteria that can be difficult to remove from shower walls and tile. If the soap scum has become dark in color, then put bleach in a spray bottle and spray it liberally on the dark areas.

Step 3
Tough bathtub soap scum requires a mild abrasive cleaner. The best type to use is a cream base cleaner rather than a powder base cleaner because it tends to be more gentle on the tile. To clean the area effectively, use a slightly textured sponge or abrasive cloth. Do not use a cleaning supply that has a metal fiber because it can leave deep scratches in the tub's coating.

Step 4
Attack the remaining soap scum with household baking soda. Baking soda will fight against the grime and dirt that is left on the bathtub walls and tile. To help protect the floor of the tub from the worst of the soap scum, you can purchase a bathmat that can be washed in the washing machine.
