Bread Bowl Fondue - a.k.a.
Bread Bowl Fondue - a.k.a. "The Bread Thing"
Delicious!

You might think there's nothing better than the combination of beef and melted cheese. Well actually there is - when that irresistible combination is baked and eaten from a sourdough bread "bowl". Here I will show you how to make this winning appetizer that will make a wonderful addition to your holiday appetizer menu, a football party or even a cozy movie night for two!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 Large sourdough loaf, un-sliced
  • 3/4 Jar dried beef, rinsed and thinly sliced
  • 1 8 oz. Tub of sour cream
  • 1 8 oz. Brick of cream cheese, softened
  • 2 Chopped green onions
  • 2 Tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 12 oz. Sharp cheddar cheese - grated
  • 4 oz Blue cheese - crumbled
  • 3 Tablespoons milk
  1. Step 1

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

  2. Step 2

Cut a thin slice from the top of the sourdough loaf, set aside - this will serve as the lid to your bread bowl. Scoop out the inside of the loaf, leaving the sides and bottom approximately 1 inch thick.
Cut the bread that was removed into chunks and reserve.

  3. Step 3

In a large bowl, mix all remaining ingredients together. Scoop the beef/cheese mixture into the hollowed-out bread loaf.
Place the reserved slice back onto the loaf and cover entirely with aluminum foil.

  4. Step 4

Place foil-covered loaf on baking sheet.
Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 1 hour or until mixture is melted and creamy.

  5. Step 5

Serve with reserved bread cubes and additional bread if desired, crackers, salami chunks and assorted vegetables.

  6. Step 6

    Dip and Enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • If the dip is not creamy enough, add additional milk during baking - 1 tablespoon at a time until desired creaminess is achieved.
