Cornucopias have long been used as a fall theme when decorating. This year make a cornucopia that you can give the kids to munch on!
Fill them up with candies and other goodies as favors for the little ones.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • (8) Ice cream sugar cones
  • (3) Ounces of semisweet chocolate, melted
  • A mixture of fall candies (such as candy corn, pumpkin candies, etc).
  • (8) Pieces of lightweight cardboard measuring 2" X 3/4"
  1. Step 1

Get together the following supplies and ingredients that you will need to make your Thankful Thanksgiving Cornucopias:
    * (8) Ice cream sugar cones
    * (3) Ounces of semisweet chocolate, melted
    * A mixture of fall candies (such as candy corn, pumpkin candies, etc).
    * (8) Pieces of lightweight cardboard

  2. Step 2

Melt your semisweet chocolate and place into a small bowl. Just make sure the bowl is large enough to dip the large end of the ice cream cones into.

Dip the opened edge of the cones into the melted chocolate.
Allow them to stand on wax paper until they have dried and hardened.

  3. Step 3

After the chocolate has dried and hardened, lay each of the ice cream cones on its side and fill with the candies or treats of your choice.

In some craft stores you will find erasers, stickers and other small items that you can add if you prefer to not use candies.

  4. Step 4

Make the children’s place cards by writing their names on the cardboard you have sat to the side.

Reheat the chocolate you had left over from earlier. Attach the name cards with a bit of the melted chocolate.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you want to be even more creative, run out to a craft supply store and get a stamp for your name cards. You could use a stamp that has a turkey, corn husks, Indian corn, fall leaves or anything else that you fancy that goes along with your autumn theme.
  • You don’t have to reserve this solely for Thanksgiving. You can use it at any dinner or function that is in the fall season.
  • Replace your turkey stamp with a pumpkin or other Halloween stamp and you have a fantastic treat for Halloween!
  • Allow some little helpers in the kitchen to help prepare these adorable cornucopias. Use it as an opportunity to discuss why we celebrate Thanksgiving. If you're serving these as a treat for a different function, you can still discuss why Halloween is celebrated or just enjoy some quality time with your children.
  • You will now have to give this recipe to every mom who sees your creation. Moms find this to be the most charming thing that they’ve ever seen.
  • Be ready to make them next year, the year after and the year after. Kids will be expecting them each year now. That’s OK, make this your cutesy little trademark at your dinners.
  • If you're allowing your children into the kitchen, supervise! If they are helping cut the lightweight cardboard, use safety scissors.
  • Melted chocolate can burn a child severely. Make sure this is left to an older child who can be very careful.
