Like to read? By now, you know all the usual ways to save money on books. It might be time to consider some more unusual ones.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Always check your local library first. If you don't want to own a copy of a book, they can usually find a copy that you can borrow for a few weeks. If the local library doesn't own it, it can often be borrowed from a library elsewhere in the state.

  2. Step 2

That didn't work? Local library's selection isn't good? Consider swapping books. There are several online programs that you can use. More cheaply, try trading copies with your friends. You'll both save money.

  3. Step 3

Option b: look for used books. Often local charities run book sales for fundraisers. You might be able to get bags of books for as little as a dollar. Local used book stores may let you bring in your older books as credit towards new reads.

  4. Step 4

Final option: sell your old books. Online book sellers let you resell for a fee. The extra money might help you fund new purchases.

Tips & Warnings
  • Know what you're buying. Don't pay too much for book. Remember that there are books expensive enough that waiting for a library copy is worth it.
