Believe it or not the colors surrounding us can be a deciding factor in how we feel throughout our day. Just as an ocean blue or sea green can have us picturing vacations and relaxing us, vibrant oranges and reds can uplift and energize. Here are some ways to incorporate Color Therapy in your every day life.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Various forms of color
  • A willingness to try
  1. Step 1

If you are a woman (or a man that likes too) paint your nails. This is an easy way to incorporate color into your every day life. You see your hands almost constantly a well chosen color for its mood enhancing abilities can give you an added boost all day long. Select your color based on your personal needs rather than what may or may not be fashionable at the time. Pick shades of vibrant oranges and yellows to give you an energy boost. A sunny yellow is a great pick if you think you will be stressed or tired as a bright yellow can wake you up as well as lift a bad mood.

  2. Step 2

Choose your clothing carefully. While depending on your professional life I don’t necessarily advice you to wear a hot pink shirt into the office, but there are subtle ways of including your mood enhancing color without looking like a clown. Try wearing darker versions of the color you have in mind for a less distracting shade while still offering the mood enhancing ability. A more natural red for example might be more appropriate than an electric red. If you need a bright color, and you are unable to wear it openly it works just as well to have your under clothes brightly colored. Even though you may only see your under clothes a few times a day, all day long you will still get a lift just KNOWING that you have super bright colors under there.

  3. Step 3

Paint a wall. The whole room would be overkill but if you have an all white room, painting just one wall a vibrant orange, a passionate red, or a sunny yellow can give it a fashionable and extremely mood enhancing new look. This works especially well in a completely white environment as the contrast will make the colors all the more noticeable.

  4. Step 4

Hang some color filled art. If your walls are bland and bare it’s no wonder you have to drag your butt out of bed everyday. Invest in firey and boldly colored art, posters, and art prints to give your eyes an energizing and uplifting landscape every morning.

  5. Step 5

Change the sheets. Bright red sheets can bring out lustful emotions…a nice addition in any bedroom. Or Choose light shades of purples and blues for a relaxing mood enhancer to help you drift to sleep. If you’re a night owl having trouble getting up and about in the early AM try very bright orange or yellow sheets. Spying these first thing in the morning can help lift your sleepy eyes from the pillows.

  6. Step 6

Make small changes where you can to add a little color to your life. Change the shower curtain, floor rugs, throw pillows, window curtains; even change your dishes to a more modern set of bright solid colors. Every little bit helps. Now I’m not suggesting you turn your home into a psychedelic tye dye t-shirt, but I do encourage you to seek out large areas of muted, bland, or “plain” spaces and add tiny touches of color to your living space. Give it a try, if having a few bright and vibrant colors around doesn’t left your mood and energy you can always go back to beige later.
