Things You'll Need:
- $50 - $60 Start up cost
- A free Ebay account
- A digital Camera
- Computer/Internet
-
Step 1
Find your investment. Instead of searching for “books” try searching for horror books lot. By adding the genre and the word lot(s) you are calling up sellers with a large quantity of books for sale. Paperbacks are one of your best bets. Romance, horror, and teen are just some of the book lot types you can find.
-
Step 2
Purchase the largest quantities of mixed books of a specific genre at the lowest total cost to you.
-
Step 3
When the books arrive carefully read the backs, the authors’ names, and categorize them by subject, author, and story type. For example if I bought a bulk lot of twenty books of the horror genre 4 were Anne Rice books, 6 Stephen King books, 4 Dean Koontz books, and 6 miscellaneous authors. I would put like books by the same author together and for the last 6 I would put them together based on subject. Like if two were about Vampires. If there are some that are totally different place them together as well. You want to aim for two or more books.
-
Step 4
I know that I can go to Ebay and find a bulk lot of 20 horror books for $20 or less. From this example I have spent no more than $1 on each book, shipping included. Now it’s time to determine how much you can get for the books in your bulk lot based on author popularity and individual value.
-
Step 5
If you have more than one book by a very well known and popular writer like Anne Rice, list those books together. You want the buyer to feel like they too are getting a good buy. From the example above I would list the 4 Anne Rice books for a buy it now price of $6.99 with a shipping charge of around $3.00. Total cash returned $9.99. And it will cost me about $1.50 to actually ship the books in the U.S. with media mail. So $9.99 - $1.50 = $8.49. As stated above I paid no more than $1.00 a book. For the four Anne Rice books I will have more than doubled my money.
-
Step 6
You can make an even bigger profit selling high demand books individually using the penny system. To use the penny system, list an individual book at a buy it now price of $0.99 or less. Fifty cents, twenty five cents, and even a singe penny prices all attract buyers. You charge $3 to $4 Shipping and the actual shipping of a single book via media mail will cost you less than a buck for a typical paperback. Buy purchasing cheap books in bulk and then reselling them individually or in smaller lots you can quickly begin to make a substantial additional income.
