How to Use Canvas to Make a Scrapbook Album

Blank scrapbooks are available to purchase but they can be made easily. Using canvas to make a scrapbook makes the it more personal than filling a commercially made book with pictures. Making the Pages
-
1
Cut pieces of 12 1/2-by-12 1/2-inch canvas. You will need two pieces of canvas for each page of the scrapbook you are making.
-
2
Place two pieces of canvas right sides together. Sew ¼-inch in along three sides of the square, making ¼-inch seam allowance.
-
-
3
Turn the fabric right-side-out so the seams are inside the square. Fold the raw edges of fabric in ¼-inch. Iron the seam flat. Sew along the folded edges in 1/8-inch from the edge of the fabric.
Assembling the Book
-
4
Set three grommets along the side of the fabric you just sewed. The sewn edge should be on the left side of the square. Use a pencil to make a mark ½-inch in from the left edge of the fabric and 1-inch down from the top. Make another mark ½-inch in from the left edge of the fabric and 1-inch up from the bottom. The third mark should be made ½-inch in from the left edge of the fabric centered between the first two marks.
-
5
Use the awl to punch a hole through both layers of fabric where each mark has been made. Push the bottom part of the grommet through the hole on the backside of the fabric. The hole should be small enough so it is snug around the grommet. Place the top part of the grommet on top of the bottom part of the grommet. Hammer the grommet pieces together using a hammer and the grommet tool provided with the grommets. Repeat this process with each grommet.
-
6
Repeat this process for each page you are making for the scrapbook.
-
7
Make enough pages for your scrapbook. Remember to make two extra pages for the cover and back of the book. Stack the pages together. Tie the pages together by threading a ribbon through the top, middle and bottom grommets and tying.
-

Add images to your scrapbook by gluing on with fabric glue. Use fabric markers to write in the scrapbook.

Tips & Warnings
If you want to sew materials into the book, sew the images onto the pages before sewing the pages together. Use different colors of canvas for each page if desired.
Be careful using the awl to make holes in the fabric. Do not push the awl through the fabric toward your face.
