How to Get Rid of Fabric Softener Stains

We all love our clothes to smell like "spring rain" or "country meadows" as our bottle of favorite liquid fabric softener promises. However, laundry mishaps happen, and fabric softener may have stained your favorite jeans or a basket full of laundry.       Rewet the stain.

      Rub the stain with a bar of Ivory Soap.

      Rinse the soap off with warm water. Check to see if the stain is still visible. If it is, use more soap and rinse again.

      Once the stain is no longer visible, wash the article of clothing. Check to see if the stain is completely gone after laundering.

      Repeat the process if the stain is still present.

Tips & Warnings

  • Try to catch the fabric softener stain before putting the article in the dryer. As with all stains, this will set the stain and make it more difficult to remove. If these stains occur regularly while washing a load, dilute the fabric softener with water before adding it to each load.
