1
Think of a theme. If your toddler has a favorite television show or character, that might be a good place to start. You may also consider creating a theme around the child's age, favorite animal, activity or color. Select a paint and border.

2
Create a floor plan. Include where you'll put large items like tables, bookshelves and toy bins, as well as any shelving units you plan to mount to the walls. Once you have a plan, begin to paint, wallpaper and/or add borders to the walls.

3
Purchase toy bins, lamps and other decorative accessories like wall paintings, murals or wooden letters to spell the child's name. You may even purchase picture frames to display photos of the family throughout the room. Once the paint is dry, add artwork to the walls.

4
Gather your toddlers' toys and sort them according to items you plan to keep and items you plan to give away. With the items you plan to keep, sort them by category. For example, create a pile for games, arts and crafts materials, stuffed animals, and blocks. Put all of the items away in the bins and on the shelves.

5
Arrange the room according to your floor plan. Be sure to put an area rug in the middle of the floor and let it serve as an open area. Organize toys and books, and add decorative items throughout the room, such as curtains.

6
Bring your toddler into the new playroom. You may want to do a mini-tour and show your toddler where each of his items are located.
