How to Disable Virus Protection on Windows XP

Antivirus software running on your computer helps keep the computer clean of viruses. This kind of software is designed to always run in the background and scan active computer programs for illegal activities that may disrupt normal functioning of the system. It is highly recommended not to disable virus protection on your computer.

  • Log in as administrator on your Windows XP-based computer.

  • In the notification area on the taskbar (place where time is displayed), right-click on the icon for the antivirus program.

  • Click on "Disable." Virus protection is now disabled.
