Hose clamps that are used to attach radiator hoses and other engine system hoses also are useful in other applications. In fact, hose clamps are so effective, easy to work and useful in a wide range of situations, that they are similar to duct tape in that they are often thought of as an all-around "fix it' fastener.

    How to Tighten Hose Clamps

  1. Step 1

Use a flat-head screwdriver or a hex wrench to open the hose clamp by turning the driver counterclockwise. Turn it until the clamp comes apart.

  2. Step 2

Slip the hose clamp over the hose that you will be fastening. Slide the hose onto the fitting, and then slide the clamp into position over both of them.

  3. Step 3

Turn the clamp so that you have easy access to the driver.

  4. Step 4

Squeeze the clamp with one hand so that the end opposite the driver slides into the sleeve holding the driver.

  5. Step 5

Turn the driver clockwise with the screwdriver or wrench so the threads on the driver engage the slots on the clamp. Continue turning the driver until the clamp tightens around the hose securely.
