Instructions

    • 1

Grow sage in a rich clay-loam soil, as it grows best in a compost rich in nitrogen that is well-drained.

    • 2

Keep the plant in full sun. Water only about twice a week, as sage prefers drier conditions and dislikes having wet or soggy roots. If the topsoil feels dry, water the sage plant.

    • 3

Place a wooden stake in the sage close to the base of the plant. If the plant grows very tall, you will need to have the stake tied to it in order to make it stable.

    • 4

Rinse off the leaves of the plant about once a month so dust does not build up on the furry leaves.

    • 5

Harvest sage by cutting or pinching off the leaves. Harvest sage during the spring or summer seasons.

    • 6

If it gets cold outside, cover the sage plant with a blanket or canvas to protect it.
