How to Create a Partition for Free Space

If you have a large amount of room on your PC computer's hard drive, then you can create a new partition for that free space. With a new partition, you will be able to install a second operating system or back up your important data. The easiest way to create a partition with Windows is to use the Disk Management utility, which is included with the operating system.

      Log on to your PC computer with an administrator account.

      Open the "Start" menu and click on the "Control Panel" icon.

      Open the "Administrative Tools" folder and then double-click on "Computer Management."

      Go to the "Disk Management" tab on the left side of the window.

      Right-click on the hard drive on which you want to create the partition and choose the "New Partition" option.

      Select "Primary partition" as the format for the new partition you are creating and hit "Next."

      Choose how much space to allocate for the new partition and then hit "Next" again.

      Select the "NTFS" formatting system for the new partition and click "Finish" to begin creating the partition. The creation process should take less than 15 minutes to complete.
