How to Connect a Regulator on a Gas Grill
A regulator is a valve and rubber hose assembly that controls the gas flow from a tank of propane to the burners of a gas grill. You may need to replace the regulator if the rubber hose ever cracks or develops a leak due to prolonged heat exposure beneath the grill. Connecting a regulator is no more difficult than attaching a garden hose to a faucet. Does this Spark an idea?

Attach the large, black nozzle on one end of the regulator to the side valve on the top of the propane gas tank by turning clockwise and tightening by hand. You may hear a brief hiss as the nozzle seals onto the propane tank valve, then there should be no sound.

Look under and behind the front control panel of the grill to locate the pipes (called Venturi tubes) that extend from the underside of the grill to the back of the control panel, where a small, threaded brass-colored nozzle angles downward.

Attach the other end of the regulator assembly to the nozzle underneath the grill by turning the threaded housing on the end of the regulator's rubber hose clockwise around the nozzle behind the grill control panel. Hand tighten.

Open the gas valve on top of the propane tank by turning clockwise.

Listen closely and sniff carefully near the regulator. If you have properly hand-tightened the regulator, there should be no sound, no telltale hiss of a gas leak, nor will you detect any propane gas smell. The only time you should hear a hissing sound is when you turn on the flame control knobs on the front control panel of the grill in preparation for lighting.

Tips & Warnings
If you hear and sound of leaking gas or detect the distinctive smell of propane, the regulator has not been installed properly. Shut off the valve on the gas tank and repeat the installation steps, taking care to thread the regulator ends straight onto the nozzles of the propane tank and the grill.
