Sliding bypass doors are typically used to cover closets or laundry space. They come in handy if both sides of the area are not needed at once. They are also useful for large spaces that never had doors but are now used for storage.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Safety goggles
  • Bypass doors
  • Door hardware
  • Screws
  • Drill
  • Small drill bit
  1. Step 1

Hold the track up to the top of the door frame. Have a helper hold it in place. Use the track as a template to mark the holes for the screws with a pencil.

  2. Step 2

Remove the track and put on safety goggles. Drill pilot holes with a small drill bit. Have your helper hold the track to the top of the frame. Insert the screws that hold the track in place.

  3. Step 3

Place the roller brackets 2 1/2 inches from the edge of the top of the door. Drill pilot holes in the top of the door where the screws will be placed. Insert the screws. Do this for both sides of the door, and for both doors.

  4. Step 4

Hang the door by tilting it at a slight angle, then pushing the roller bracket into the track. Pull the door toward you and it will snap in the track.

  5. Step 5

On the roller bracket there is an adjustment to raise or lower the door. Adjust it to the proper height, which is about 1/2 inch off the floor.

  6. Step 6

Let the doors hang naturally, then place the door guide in the center of the frame on the floor. Be sure that both doors are able to stay in the guide when they overlap. Drill small pilot holes in the floor and secure the door guide with screws.
