How to Stop Ringworm Itch

Ringworm is caused by a fungal infection. It can appear on the scalp, foot or groin area and can be very itchy. You can do several things to relieve the itching.

Instructions

    • 1

Use anti-fungal creams. As these treatments clear up the rash, they will reduce accompanying symptoms like itching. Over-the-counter brands include Lotrimin and Mycelex.

    • 2

Apply a cold compress to the affected area. Use a cool, damp towel or wrap an ice pack or package of frozen vegetables in a cloth. Cooling the area will relieve the itchy feeling.

    • 3

Use anti-itch medicines. These include calamine lotion or over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream. If itching is severe, you can use over-the-counter oral antihistamines like Benadryl to relieve the itch.

    • 4

Soak the affected area in water mixed with oatmeal or baking soda for as long as desired.

    • 5

Keep the affected area clean and dry. Moisture aggravates itching.
