Water in an even, circular band about 1 foot wide around the base of your tree. Water until the soil is very moist, but not squishy or muddy.

Wait until the top layer of soil is almost dry before watering again. In soil this could take about a week. In fast-draining soil full of sand or gravel, it may be four or five days. If you mulch your Bradford pear, the soil may not dry out for two weeks.

Water every three or four days during very hot weather and drought. Water regularly according to the weather until after the first frost. If the ground remains soft, continue watering. If the ground has frozen and the leaves begin to drop, do not water again until the ground softens.
