How to Remove an Oil Based Paint From a Truck

When painting a house, spills and stains can happen. However, when they happen to your truck, it's no laughing matter. Many paint solvents and thinners are good at removing paint, but they may also be good at removing your vehicle's clear coat as well. If you have an oil-based paint stain on your truck, be extra careful to remove the stain without damaging the finish. Fortunately, solvents will remove the oil-based paint without removing your truck's paint as well.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Wipe the wet paint from your truck with a clean wet cloth before it has the chance to dry. Catching and cleaning wet paint spots is the easiest method of removing paint from the truck.

  2. Step 2

Move your vehicle to a clean, well-ventilated place out of direct sunlight in preparation for removing dried paint stains.

  3. Step 3

Soak a clean cloth with mineral spirits.

  4. Step 4

Gently rub the edges of the paint spot with the mineral-spirit soaked cloth. Use a circular motion to rub. Do not press hard.

  5. Step 5

Clean the spot from the edge of the paint stain and work your way inward. Wipe away paint drips with a clean, dry cloth.
