How to Avoid Problems With Flattop Electric Stoves
Flattop electric stoves can make kitchen cleanups much easier and provide an excellent cooking surface in your kitchen. Many consumers believe cooking on an electric stove versus a gas stove can change the speed of cooking (Some believe that electric stoves can take longer to cook items or heat pans.), but others don't notice a difference and sometimes prefer electric. Flattop stoves are made of a fiberglass material that can crack or break if the wrong type of cleaner is used, if the stove is not cleaned regularly, or if heavy objects are dropped or slammed on the stovetop. 1
Purchase glass stovetop cleaner. This is available at most major grocery stores, hardware stores and major retail outlets like Target and Walmart.
-
2
Regularly clean the flattop stove using the cleaner after the stove has thoroughly cooled off after use. Do not use any cleaners with bleach or other abrasive chemicals. They can severely damage the surface and cause the glass top to break and crack when the burners are turned on and the surface heats up.

3
Sprinkle a small amount of baking soda on any tough grease spots or caked-on stains. Sprinkle a small amount of water on top of the baking soda to get it damp, and let the mixture sit for about 5 to 7 minutes before wiping it off.
-
4
Be careful with heavy pots and pans on the stovetop. Don't ever slam anything on the stovetop as this may cause a serious crack or break in the top.
-
5
Regularly check the burner coils underneath the flattop surface. Do this by lifting up the top of the stove (usually you can pull the top open from the back of the range, or sometimes from one of the sides). Inspect the burners regularly for any buildup of dirt, dust or other crud that can accumulate over time. Wipe this area down regularly as well. Buildup on the burners can make the burners work less efficiently or in some cases make them not work at all.
